making a better tomorrow today

Success Stories

Unfortunately 17 of 20 kids in group homes end up either homeless or in prison. In our short time at Varsity Team we have watched two young men graduate from public high school, and a large number of our kids have been able to reunite with family members. One of our first residents was a 16 year old gang banger who had straight F’s. When he was re-united with a family member and left our group home his last progress report was 2 A’s, 2 B’s, and 2 C’s and a varsity letter in football. Another one of our residents left our program earning a 3.3 GPA and has aspirations to attend the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

We currently have a number of kids set to graduate high school and move on to promising futures. One of our kids is currently deciding between a number of colleges where he will accept a full ride scholarship for football and plans to attend medical school. Not all of our kids will have this much success, but it is very rewarding to see all of them improve upon their grades, social skills, confidence, and independent living skills.

As we move forward we will set the bar high and failure is not an option. We have lofty goals for ourselves and for our residents. We have only been open for a few years and have already surpassed some goals of places that have been open for many years beyond that. Who knows with added supported and more resources at hand what we really could accomplish.
